Mrs. Muthoni Likimani is a grandmother who is keeping the tradition of storytelling alive. Muthoni is a former teacher in a teacher training college. She also worked as a producer and presenter of women and children’s programmes for both radio and television at the Kenya Broadcasting Service, later known as Voice of Kenya.
This story is about a beautiful girl called Nyambugi who goes out to collect fire wood with her friends. On their way, they come across a tree stump which trips each one of them, one at a time. The last girl in line is Nyambugi. She is the only one who takes action against the stump. On their way back, the girls come face to face with an Ogre. The ugly beast single out Nyambugi for harassment. Depite these tense moments, the story ends in celebration as Nyambugi marries a handsome young man.
